Monogram, Initial, and Date Styles

How Is a Monogram Styled?
A traditional monogram uses three initials. The order is first name, last name, middle name. The last name initial goes in the center and is engraved larger than the first and middle name initials.
For example, Ann Beth Croft would be engraved A C B with the C larger than the A and the B. -
How Are Initials Styled?
Initials are engraved all the same size, in the order the name reads. The order is first name, middle name, last name.
For example, Ann Beth Croft would be engraved A B C, with all three the same size. Have more than one middle name? That works too. Jane Ann Cindy Smith would be J A C S, straight across in the same order. -
Numeric Date
Dates are engraved in numeric format, mm-dd-yy. Single digit months and days drop the leading zero.
For example, June 19, 2026 is engraved 6-19-2026. (this is our standard) -
Spelled Out Date
Dates can also be engraved with the month written out, like June 19, 2026.
For example, 6-19-2026 would be engraved June 19, 2026. (just let us know on the engraving form)

How the Engraving Proof Works
Read the proof carefully. We engrave exactly what you approve, and once a piece is marked, we can't undo it. If something isn't correct on your proof, let us know and we'll fix it before it heads to our engraving department.

Engraving FAQs
How much does engraving cost?
- Text, first ten characters - $14
- Each character after ten - $1
- Monogram (three initials) - $14
- Date only - $14
- Monogram and date - $28
- Second side (flip fee) - $14
Spaces don't count toward your character total. If your engraving runs past ten characters, the extra is invoiced separately after you order.
Engraving several lines of text? Fill out the form like normal and we'll invoice the extra for you.
How long does engraving take?
- Most engraved orders ship 5 to 8 business days after you approve your proof.
- During busy seasons like Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and graduation, engraving takes longer, so give yourself extra time.
- Expedited shipping doesn't speed up engraving. It only covers the trip from us to you after the piece comes back from the engraver.
- Need it by a certain date? Email us, and we'll let you know if we can make it happen!
Can I rush my engraving?
Usually, but it all depends on our engraving queue. Email us before you order with the date you need and we'll tell you whether we can do it and what it would cost.
Will I see what my engraving looks like before it's engraved?
You'll get a written proof, usually within 24 hours, confirming exactly what will be engraved. It's a confirmation of your details rather than a picture of the finished piece. Nothing goes to the engraver until you approve it.
Can I change my engraving after I approve the proof?
No. Once you approve the proof we turn the order in, and a piece that's been engraved can't be changed or returned. That's why the proof step matters, so take a minute with it before you approve.
Can you engrave icons or other designs?
Yes! In addition to names, monograms, and dates, our engraver has a large library of icons and designs. Crosses, hearts, animals, sports, and plenty more. Just email us and let us know what you're looking for!
Can you engrave both sides?
Yes. A second side is $14. It's a good option on smaller pieces where the text needs to be split between sides.
Which initial goes in the middle of a monogram?
The last name initial. It sits in the center and is engraved larger than the other two, with the first name initial on the left and the middle name initial on the right.
Can you engrave an item I bought somewhere else?
We only engrave pieces purchased from Templeton Silver.
Do you engrave company logos?
Yes. Send us your high resolution logo, a PNG works best, and let us know what you'd like it on. We'll take a look and get back to you.
Do you do corporate or bulk engraving?
All the time! Client gifts, employee milestones, retirement pieces, awards, closing gifts, we do all of it. You can order right on the site like anything else, and we'll handle the engraving for the whole batch.
